Looking to network with others in the media & entertainment industry and learn about your experience at your company and any advice you have on applying or getting your foot in the door. I am currently based in Atlanta and am looking to relocate to LA (preferred) or NYC- though tough since these markets are oversaturated with individuals in the industry. I’m in research, insights, & strategy (4 YOE)
I think there’s work in analytics and data, as most companies need that to inform strategy. Also UX research.
Go to the A3C convention in Atlanta in October. There will be a lot of music biz people there; it’s a hip hop industry networking and learning event. If you specialize in research and insights then you’ll need to be able to build dashboards and reports in Tableau, use google BQ, MySQL and other DB software that entertainment companies use to warehouse data. It will also help a lot if you start writing article on Medium or guest columns on sites like Digitalmusicnews or Music:ally that share some compelling insights or perspectives that you’ve gathered, even without a job in the business.
This is good advice; thank you! I do know SQL and Tableau and use both often- helpful to hear your perspective!
There bigger companies like Disney have huge tech footprints and it's relatively easy to get hired. I am at Ticketmaster and I agree that the analytics and big Data side seems to have the most growth potential if I were a new grad.

I’d say learn to code as engineering work will ramp up a lot in this industry due to streaming catch up the industry is doing due to netflix. viacom/cbs merger, disney, warner media are all going for streaming. engineering offers will most likely help pay for moving costs too.
