I have been observing how media reports about Facebook and see how even the trivial stuff gets blown out of proportion and every media house just jumps on the opportunity to bash FB. Cambridge analytica was a big issue but nowhere as big as it was made out to be. It was old news that FB had already handled by the time the whole thing became big. Google and other companies also are in the ad business and I think Google tracks and stores much more data than FB is capable of. Also, some news about how Google was actually letting admins read your email was much bigger than Cambridge analytica in terms of user privacy and did not get the coverage that it should have. Your email potentially has all your personal information including documents, in most cases ur social security details and what not while the info on FB is basically just crap no one cares about. I don't work for FB and never have. Just wondering if this is because FB is killing the print media's ad business.
I think it could be because FB drives/controls a huge chunk of traffic to the media websites. Obviously they don't want FB to have so much of influence over their revenue streams.
Why do you think it is bias, it's about asking the facebook to do the right thing. Social networking has grown so big its growth should be checked.
Boeing is saying another industry has gotten too big? You're fucking kidding me... McDonald Douglas, North American, Hughes, big portion of Embraer... who's gotten too big? I'm happy for y'all, but don't go getting self righteous
@bwgap That's what I think. it's so weird that half the people I spoke to about this had not bothered to lock their credit reports after the Equifax breach but were shitting on FB everywhere.
@spGg24 nothing wrong with that. Just that every one should be held to same standards. Why only FB. Why not Google and Twitter?
Similar with the eBay hack in 2014. The information contained in it (if it even really got released, of which there was no evidence) was the same info disclosed in that book that magically appears by my front door once a year that I haven’t even glanced at in 15 years. Yet the media used it to almost destroy us.
Oh my God! This post is so true! Initially I thought the hate is on blind only.. Bashing Facebook left right center.. Has anyone noticed the good stuff Facebook has done? Groups.. Empowering lots of our parents to connect.. And lots of social outreach etc.. Always crying about Cambridge analytica is not cool.. Recently read that Facebook dilemma article which suggested Facebook responsible for genocide or something.. I mean come on! We don't go suing Google or hating on google for serving as a place where fake news appears.. We don't sue Google because terrorists used google maps to plan an attack. Then why hate on fb so much! Recently British airlines and Cathy pacific had a data breach affecting 900million customer.. Worse breaches have happened. Move on from hating on fb already!
Spare me
Entertainment bias. If people care and click on the links then it’s news. (If people don’t care it’s not news.) Lots of people finally understood after the Cambridge Analytica news how their data was being used and that it could be used to manipulate elections. And enough people still care that it triggers their fear systems and they click on the link to continue to be shocked. Humans are used to dealing with small tribes of 100 -150 people. Our brains aren’t that skilled at figuring out what’s actually dangerous and likely to kill us or at accurately assessing risk. The news media plays to these fears because their business models usually depend on clicks and viewers.
I’m used to it, doesn’t bother me as much these days; met up with my cousin and some of his initial words were “you work for an evil company” lol. Looking at it from a different perspective, FB is a company/app that people feel more personally connected to and invested in, it doesn’t matter if other companies like google or data brokers engage in similar practices or have worse incidents.
I was just reading about small business and the impact that FB has had for the. Heard about all birds? They started almost exclusively through FB advertising. look where they are now. True that FB uses your data to advertise but it's not actually selling it. Just think about companies like Lexis Nexis. They collect every piece of data about your life, all your financial information, health information, your assets etc. Where the fuck do they get that from and who authorised them to sell it to anyone who pays for it ?
What’s your point?
Just want to know what people think. Don't comment if you don't see a point. Waste of both our times.
That Atinlay should go back to primary schooling because he is a dumbfuck and an illiterate nonce who cannot even read simple english and make sense out of it.
