I’m located in California, and I’m changing jobs soon. I start the new job on Dec. 9, and my current employer’s medical coverage ends on Nov. 30. COBRA is too expensive for just 8 days. I’ve been looking online, and it seems that short term healthcare plans are prohibited in California. Is there another way around it? Thanks.
COBRA is retroactive for 30 days, so if you use medical insurance anytime for those 8 days, you can enroll in COBRA and pay the premium anytime before 30th Dec. If you don’t use the medical insurance, don’t pay the COBRA
Got it. Thank you very much.
Yep... just had this exact same situation. Concur. Just don’t _plan_ to use it, but if you get hit by a car or something you can retroactively pay for it.
COBRA is actually retroactive for 60 days from the latter of coverage end date or the date you get your COBRA paperwork. Assuming you work for a company with more than 20 employees.
Even better. Thank you.
Make sure you take advantage of your current dental and vision benefits before that coverage ends. Get your current prescriptions filled, etc. Also, spend down any FSA balances.
Thank you. Yeah I’ll schedule a dental cleaning before it ends, but I’m still looking for a way to spend $200 in my FSA before the end of next week. I think I’ll try acupuncture or chiropractic care if they don’t require a prescription.
https://fsastore.com/ Spend it like it's hot because it is!!!
I’m sure California will take care of you
Just wait 8 days to see a dentist or dr lol.

COBRA have 30 days to sign up and it retro to where your employers coverage end. So just wait for your new jobs start. In the case you really need to visit Dr, pay for COBRA for 1 month if needed
Oh got it. That’s very helpful. Thank you.
