Mental health & work performance

I struggle with anxiety and depression, it's not super severe, but some days are definitely harder than others. I am afraid that on the days that are a struggle for me, that my coworkers and managers might notice, and think that I'm not doing my job or that I'm slacking. Should I disclose my mental health issues with my managers and/or coworkers? Sometimes I'm tempted to so they won't think less of me in case my work does get affected. I don't think my work gets affected too badly, but I definitely don't go too much above and beyond if I'm not feeling mentally well that day.

Why would you as long as you’re meeting your deadlines and deliverables

Depends - what kind of work do you do??

I wouldn’t disclose mental health issues, people unconsciously may become weird, how about on bad days you just tell them “unfortunately I’m having few rough days, so excuse me if things don’t go as fast until it gets better, I’m working on it” Keep it sincere but light like that

You are not required to tell your manager or coworkers and it provides you no real support or protection if you do. You can however tell the part of your HR department that deals with accomodations and health issues if you are diagnosed/under care. That way if anything happens related to it, there is a prior written record with HR and the company is more likely to step in to assist/give you room or support while you work through flare ups. Also it gives you a greater ability to take time off or work reduced hours/from home if it becomes needed.

If you’re not under serious medication I wouldn’t say anything. You can however say you have some personal things you are dealing with if you want to say something. Also most people at work won’t care. The cure to my depression was finding my faith. I can’t stress enough how much that changed my life. Try to find a responsibility outside of work that you can commit and this will help you alter your mindset. Also make sure you’re getting sufficient vitamins because lack of certain nutrients can also cause depression. Wishing you health!
