I've been in US for 5 years now for F1 BSc. CS, now OPT Stem, waiting for H1b RFE; never been home since I came to US due to financial struggles. 25, Virgin. Never been in a relationship. Making only 55k in Philadelphia with 1yoe. Took me 6 months to find my current job with this sketchy Desi consulting company, homeless for months living in my broken car and taking shower in public gym every morning. Life can be really lonely and painful especially seasonal celebrations and seeing everyone out on the streets with their besties and love ones. Is it really worth it? American dream? I miss my home and family. Please share your experiences if you had similar and how you get through it? I feel suicidal sometimes and wanna just leave the country but I've come so far...
Why are you killing yourself by living in your car and showering in a gym? What's forcing you to live like this?.
This is definitely painful and I hope things get better for you sooner than later OP. However, I’d suggest the easiest way to improve your situation would be to put your head down and grind LC. Comcast is a decent company to at least land you those interviews. What kind of development work do you do? I’d say JavaScript development jobs are easier to come by in most good companies and they pay equally well. There are stories of homeless grinding LC and getting jobs in tech companies, you are at least better than them :) cheer up, don’t put your weapons down. Take this challenge head on and I’m sure you will be victorious!
I'm a full stack developer contractor now, working mainly in py and dj
That’s great as well, don’t lose your heart man that’s all I gotta say. Everyone has to face difficult times in their lives. Those people you see walking by enjoying with their loved ones, that’s just a highlight of their life, you don’t know what problems they are going through. I know it’s difficult to not compare but at this point just shut all doors (mentally) sit in a library and start LC’ing!
Philly is an awesome city with a great nightlife.. grow up, put yourself out there. When I was 25 I was living in Australia getting laid a lot. Nobody will help you. Gotta make it on your own friend.
Got it. I think I gotta take myself out of this hole aka my room asap.
Why? Just why? I usually advise my friends from India to only come US if they think they have the skills and are willing to work hard. This is not our country unfortunately. I have been through the interviewing stress and everything. American dream is a dream and dreams are not supposed to be easy!
I'm working really hard and talented I believe. It's just sometimes, human lost their ways and now looking for advises and experienced companions in blind community
1. 55k In Philly is a decent salary. My first job was 60k in Philly which I left to move to the Bay Area.I deeply regret it because Philly was such a kick ass city .I did the exact same thing you did;move on OPT because I felt I was earning a low salary. 2. Be patient -work for 2-3 years in Philly and then move to NYC or SF once you have an H1. Seriously just stay in Philly and find a girlfriend there.Once you have established that and built a life then move. With 55k you can afford a very decent place in center city or old city. You don’t even need to venture out to West Philly or North Philly

You should probably go back to India. Not worth it.
Pay is irrelevant, you need friends and compatriots. it can be hard in a new country. Find some dumb hobby you can use Meetup.com or Facebook groups to find people who do the same thing once a week in your area. Join them an make friends. Just do it once a week it'll be slow but worth it.
Got it. I guess I'm crazy with the idea of having a gf. I just don't get anyone attracted

We don't need to stay with a decision just because we invested our time into it. If it ain't working, try something else. I say "we" for a reason, unfortunately.
I hope you do well and press on as well. m7kd1
