Mercedes/Daimler Self driving offer

I have an offer from Mercedes with Autonomous Driving group, the numbers are still in the working. Work : I am going to be working on Perception algorithms. That is something that i have not worked on and always wanted to get in. The team seemed pretty cool when i talked to them. Comp: have no idea, but they dont offer stock is what i know. What is the general perception of mercedes in the autonomous space? Would it be wise to go out from a software company and work with a car company ? Suggestions/comments welcome.

Benz, the company you applied for-they make cars. Michalumni hopes you will get one as a perk.

Cruise is better. Ask anyone in the space 😉

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 22, 2018

Ya, but u guys would not call me 😔... but if u can share thoughts on this it d be great. I have 3 years exp in non autonomous sw.

Cruise Automation ✉️ Jul 22, 2018

Did you apply? We're looking for more senior-level people atm I think. You can also always transfer to us later on.

Google Kmnd71 Jul 22, 2018

If this is for MBRDNA, I expect low TC and no benefits. Got an internship offer from them. Low hourly pay and no relocation stipend.

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 22, 2018

Yes its mbrdna. The upside i have is i am from non ai background and i will get to work on it. TC might be a prob. Dont have any other offers so 😔

Worked for a different automaker and let's just say they don't do software nearly as well as tech companies. If they are in the Valley then it might be a different story, but from my automaker experience the good software engineers lose their mind and quit to create work they are actually proud of. Hope Mercedes is different.

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 22, 2018

I think they are doing cool stuff.. i actually saw their cars. They have launched in bay area recently.

Cruise Automation CRAlG Jul 23, 2018

“Don’t do software nearly as well” is an understatement of the year. Every time an oem tries to build something, an engine inevitably comes out

Daimler OlaKae Jul 22, 2018

What did you do at Juniper?

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 22, 2018

M not at juniper anymore. Would u tell me what tc to expect for 3yoe

Daimler OlaKae Jul 24, 2018

160- 180 I’d say? Depending on the team though

Daimler Whowhatwhy Jul 22, 2018

Doing cool stuff but make sure to get ready to negotiate if you really need a job and this is your only choice

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 22, 2018

Do u mean i should avoid at all cost ? Or the pay is going to be bad ?

Daimler Whowhatwhy Jul 22, 2018

Pay isn’t as good as other tech comps in the valley most likely, this kinda depends if you have a masters/phd or not. AD is a pretty cool team but not sure if a whole lot has changed under the new vp&director. Also, if you’re european, not too bad.

Cruise Automation Hoooohp Jul 28, 2018

FYI they’re moving a lot of talent to Germany. My buddy who works there is kinda pissed over it.

Juniper EMacro🇫🇷 OP Jul 30, 2018

What team was that ?
