Hi - I would love for you guys to help me evaluate my Microsoft offer that I received. This is for a senior backend software developer position in a startup recently acquired by Microsoft in New York City.

Microsoft Offer :-
Level - Sr SWE - 64
Base - $185k
OnHire RSU - 60k over 4 years
Sign on bonus - undecided**
Location - Manhattan
Annual bonus - 0-40% ( average is at 20% for most employees)
Ongoing Annual Stock is 0-48k (depending on performance)

** The recruiter said that the sign on bonus was not particularly included in all offers and that they would have to come back to me about it. They also requested me to come up with a number in a day or two for the sign on bonus.

Update 1 :- So they came back woth an updated offer which isnt very good as compared to what ive been hearing here ...

Base - $192k
OnHire RSU - 80k over 4 years
Sign on bonus - 0

Current TC - 160k
Current Location - NY
YOE - 12+ in backend development in FinTech

That's a pretty low offer for lvl 64, especially for nyc. 250-280k should be your target

That might be true but not likely for “industry hire.”

You were told wrong unless the subsidiary hasn't fully snapped to the MSFT comp model yet. Bonus target is 15%, 30% is max. Stock can actually go up to 2.5x the Target of $24k but that's for the top 0.5% performers. You certainly won't get that every or even most years. Expect 15% bonus and $24k stock.

I don't think they get commission but they are tracked on how many they can recruit and with what budget

I was hoping for them to at least offer 110-115k so I could push for 150k ... now I’m just wondering with 60k how much more can I even push for 😒

That’s a high base for 64. Stocks are a little low, and that’s where you’ll want to spend time negotiating. Sign on bonus is rare, but you might be able to get ~20k.

Sign on bonus is standard, at least in Redmond. I wouldn't accept an offer without one. RSU grant is REALLY low for L64. Base is good for NYC. That would be an L65 base in Redmond.

I routinely see $150k stock for L64 offers.

Should I flat out ask for 150k stock ?I hope I won’t piss the recruiter off .. but then I don’t want to be low balled like this as well

Didn't know they even hired devs in the nyc office. Only see a job listing every now and then for them
Edit: reread and realized you got acquired

Not great, very low. You worth much more on the market - at least in Seattle.
