Microsoft 61 offer

Samsung divide
Nov 13 24 Comments

Location: Seattle
Base: 130k
Stocks: 140k over 4 years
Signon: 40k
Annual performance bonus: 20%
Annual performance stock range: 13k

My recruiter has said that this is the maximum team is willing to pay for the position. Does that mean there is no more room for negotiation? I don’t understand how to compute for total compensation when there is performance bonuses (does the maximum count?)

I have matching (maybe even better) offers from other companies as well: Google, Amazon, and Snowflake. Only reason I am considering Microsoft is because the project space seems more interesting.

My L61 offer (6 mo ago) for comparison:

    135k/200k/50k (30k 1st year + 20k 2nd year) 2.5 YoE

Fairley sure this was top 5% possible for L61 at the time.

I've heard of L61 offers breaking 140k base in this fiscal year (last couple of months).

      Used offers from G (L3: 130k/212k/45k) & FB (E4: 160k/200k/35k) for leverage.

Went with Microsoft due to preference in location (Colorado vs bay/Seattle) and team preference.

Do you have phd? I wonder how you got such high offers from all these companies. What was your trick?

Nah, just interview prepped well and used each other's offers to negotiate up. These offers are not that rare if you compare data points on levels.fyi

Yes, I noticed! Most of my interviews went well as well. Just being a student puts me into a non-negotiable position because companies will seek for experience rather. Personally, I have been to so many companies and studied computers so long already that I can perform better than most engineers below senior level. It seems like I am not utilizing this fact well enough though. Do you have any tricks for negotiation? I have good offers in hand, but I am not utilizing those well.

Wow. I wonder how he pulled it out. Should I ask for more? I’m afraid that it will reflect bad on me once I take the job.

Your stock is less than some new grads’ offers also your signing bonus. Your base is better.

Performance bonus target is half of max, so 10%.

Been to multiple companies before and I liked the current team in Microsoft. I was going to accept their offer if they matched with what I asked for initially, but they did not, which got me into looking for other offers as well.
