I have an on-site coming up for Facebook Infra Data Science. Before the whole process started, the recruiter in an email said they'll be considering me for IC6+ roles. I've been a consistent high performer at Microsoft and in Amazon before this. Went from L4 to L5 in Amazon in 2 years and 62 to 64 in Microsoft in 3 years. So I have some questions: - How crazy is the workload for Facebook E6 compared to an Amazon L6? - What are the expectations from an IC6 at Facebook? I'm guessing the ability to direct the work for a whole team, mentoring team members, etc. - this is something I already do in my current team at Microsoft. Is there anything else I need to be aware of? Current TC: 240k (170k base, ~30k bonus, ~40k RSUs vesting per year) Current Role: Sr. Data Scientist at Microsoft Total YOE: 11
Amazon L6 is E5, E6 is more like L7. WLB is pretty bad from what I’ve heard. L64 to E6 should be considered as a promo.
It is definitely a promo, the reason was I told them I'm at 64 and I'll most likely get to 65 in a year so I'm not considering roles that are not at a Principal level. The recruiter then replied and said they would only consider me for IC6 given my YoE.
IC6 is not equal to E6 comp wise
What’s the difference between E6 and IC6?
I’d be more wary of the job function. Facebook DS is much like an analyst, maybe bit more statistical in infra.
Wow 240k for 64... Msft really sucks.
Yeah, it's pretty low compared to the rest of the industry, but WLB at Microsoft is great, so just by being more "ambitious" than most people here, I've been able to get quick promotions.
It all depends on your team, I kept getting "you haven't been long enough in your level yet to prove consistent results." I eventually had enough and left to Google for a 50% TC bump.
