Why are you so afraid of your manager? He is not your master. Everyone does what’s best for them, including your manager. At any rate, he won’t know unless the new manager tells him.

That’s right - managers don’t know
They don’t know. But.... hiring managers can contact your current manager to ask for feedback on you. So even though they are not notified by the system, once you start to talk to people he might find out in unofficial ways.
