Why would you take a SDE 1 role over an SDE 2?
Excel is a no nonsense team in Office. It's one of the best but the work may be non glamorous at the same time non-trivial. Trivia.. founder of stackoverflow used to be a principal on Excel team.

New at MS, this question could help OP too. What does Excel team work on? Everything seems to be there in excel as a product already. Do they really add new features every year?
Excel team will be boring. Go to Amazon, learn lots of new things in a growing product.
but alexa org culture sucks and most problems are routine and trivial.
Excel team, no brainier. You won't be whipped to death for a shittier title. Benefits are better.
Excel will be chill and easy going. Alexa will be super demanding and push you as far as you can go. What do you want out of your career?
I do want to grow/ learn but no life post work kind of scares me..
It’s really easy to transfer teams at amazon. If you get burnt out, transfer to an easy going team in retail.
