Microsoft Offer

Is this an offer which should make me take Microsoft?

Base: 116k
Sign-on:50k
RSU:176k/4

I am about to graduate from a non-US institution.

I think I’ll be starting Lvl60 which is apparently rare for people who haven’t interned there before. But don’t know if going to Microsoft is good for long term career growth. I care about learning and doing great things more than money.

That's a very good offer. Probably the highest you can get

Thanks! That’s awesome to hear. Certainly more than I’d ever hope for. Microsoft has been really generous to me! In terms of career growth and learning would you leave Microsoft if you had the choice to join FAANG?

    • Microsoft / Eng Trovador
Microsoft is a very big company. FAANG is pretty much the same in many ways. Heavily depends on the team.
For the most part, I would recommend 2.5 years and then jumping ship

I’ll be part of the Windows Core org I think. Not too sure if that gives you more relevant information about whether I’m more or less likely to be in a good team.

Windows core is still big! Imo I wouldn't stick too long in the os space. It's all about services now

The recruiter said the base is non-negotiable. I had initially asked for more base but the recruiter kinda shut me down there. Is it common for base to be fixed? I’ll be in Redmond if I happen to accept.

This man is kinda stupid... I was hired one year ago at level 60 with 112.5k base... a fraction of your sign on bonus and rsu( like 10-20k rsu/5 years and 15k sign on

This is great offer for 60 and you should have good time here. If you are not happy with your team in an year than make internal jump and if in two to three years not happy in company than jump ship

Yeah the stock and bonus is very good, higher than someone else I know starting 60

No I am a college hire. I did receive a bit more RSU than other people from my school who got the offer because my interviews seem to have gone better than I thought they had gone. I think my initial signing was the same as yours but I was able to negotiate it upwards.

Yeah the college hire/industry hire this is out of control. I get that college recruiting is competitive but it’s pretty demoralizing.

It's not collage vs industry it's about how you did in interview and how desperate we are to get in our team.

Mmm interview performance has little to do here. It's 90% about what they think your other options are

You got a good offer. Even after masters and internship, they use to make people start at 59.

That's a fucking great offer. Also don't forget Microsoft has a lot of benefits, and an year end bonus I believe. Base is standard. It is either 110 or 116 for new grad.

  • Microsoft DOyu71
That is a fantastic offer. You will not get a lot more even with a competing offer so think hard about ROI on more interviewing.

Careers do NOT go to die in Core OS that's silly. I was in one of the Core OS groups for 6 years and was promoted twice. Once to L65 and then L66. There are some interesting problems to solve there, and I learned a ton about how really complex software is built and got my introduction to services there as well. You will be prepared for pretty much any job you decide to do after being in a good group in Core OS.

If you have offers from fang, negotiate based on who you want to go with. If this is all you've got, it's a pretty great offer. Career wise stick with it for about 2 years then jump ship, that's best for career.

      Aug 14, 2018
    • Microsoft BiIlyG
Find a recruiter and apply, school doesn't matter sometimes depending on resume and what names you have on it
      Aug 14, 2018
    • Microsoft neutralnet
      OP
I’ll try LinkedIn for Apple. Not too keen on Amazon anyways.
      Aug 14, 2018
    • Microsoft BiIlyG
Doesn't matter, get a competing offer. The more places you apply to the more likely you get one. If you get an amazon offer, negotiate it to be higher than MS. Then tell MS you have an amazon offer and negotiate them, then accept their offer.
