I had a buddy that worked at Epic a few years ago. He also moved to Microsoft, after about 2 years.

I am at level 62, 134k is just the starting band for 62. You have lot of room for negotiation on base. Don't get confused both 61 and 62 have same title. If 61 it's a good offer though

So I’m a 61 in services mid pay scale, and I don’t clear 100 base...trying to understand the delta-perhaps it was due to being hired as a MACH v industry.

Level 63 is Senior, not SDE 2

Target Annual bonus for senior is 15% which is about 20k

I am a 61 expecting to be a 62 soon. I was making 128k when I got to 61 and six months later 136k. So yeah the base seems on the lower end.

Try to negotiate on all three.. Base, joining bonus as well as stocks.. Say all three r low.. If you have any other offer, it will be even easier..

And yes it’s enough for Seattle. Probably can’t buy a house near campus but can live comfortably.

How far would I have to go to buy a decent size 3 bedroom house? I heard they are in the range of 600k
      Feb 4, 2018

What is decent sized? You are looking at a one hour commute each way for a 3bd house for 600k.

You can buy a great place in Bothell for ~600k, new, 3-4 bedroom. Depending on where you are and what time you leave home the commute can be ~30min at off peak times to 1hr+ during rush hour

$135 is going to be hard to get by with housing cost....I’d try to get the base a little higher.

Negotiate on all 3. Get to $140K base, $150K sign on equity (I think you can get much more though but I’m throwing a safe number) and $75K sign on cash. That should be very doable with level 62. MS usually never comes out the gate with a strong offer but with good negotiating (a competing offer always helps), they can come out on top of FAANG

It's a decent offer. You can live well here with this money. It also depends on your lifestyle. No one really buys houses in Redmond anyway now a days, so don't worry about it.

My biggest worry comes from the fact that my wife wont potentially be able to work due to visa restrictions. We dont want to end up in financial stress with a single salary in seattle.

They said thr level is high 61 expecting to move to 62 soon. Not sure if I trust that. I am trying to figure out a good comp for 62 and aim to get that. I was told I did very well on the interview.

Yeah don’t trust that. It really depend on your performance at work after that and if your manager will vouch for you etc etc. having say that MS is still a good jump from Epic from name alone.

    You probably have level 62 not 63. That’s a sde2 offer.
