Anyone here interviewed for a data scientist at Microsoft AI&R org? Is it a BI type of role, or do they do a lot of ML? Can anyone share their interview experience?
Why would you expect BI questions for a Data Science interview? Does the R stand for research? I would expect some difficult ML questions if you are interviewing at MSR
Yes, it does stand for research. Many data scientist positions in tech are sugar coated BI roles, like the one at FB. So it gets difficult to distinguish unless the interviewer sticks to what's presented in the JD, or you try to get info from a current employee.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Data Analyst? I've interviewed for DS roles at a lot of companies. Never gotten a BI question before. Usually ask about things like cross validation, how certain regularizations/hyper params impact training, how would you deal with X scenario, statistics problems, ect...
If you know the name of the person interviewing you, you could just find their LinkedIn and look. They might even have a G scholar account where you can read up on their recent work.
I don't know the name yet. By the time I will know of the name (a few days before the interview), I will need left with very little time to prepare.
Can you share your interview format and tips?
Thanks, other troll spoiled my post. Hope he doesn't turn up here.
