I have been offered from Microsoft Redmond for software engineer new grad position. $116k base, $30k sign in and $75k stock options. Is this good compensation for Seattle?
What level? 59/60? Do you have a masters degree?
I am not sure about the level. But yeah I have a master's degree.
sign on is really good for NCG
Thanks.
This must be L60 or worse 59
And? The person is a college hire.
Thanks for the response. Really appreciate it.
Not always 59, though that's the default for new grad. Previous (intern or independent) experience, advanced degrees, or really killing the interview can definitely bump it a level or two.
This is most probably a level 60 offer. Seems pretty decent. Sign on is good , rest is normal for L60.
Thank you for the response. Is there any room to negotiate on the base or the stock options, at L60?
I have seen stocks go as high as 120k for L60 and base 125k , but that totally depends on your negotiation skills and hiring manager's budget. Anyways, the offer is on the better side, so, it's on you if you want to negotiate for more
Is this immediately after your Masters or are you working some where now?
Immediately after my masters.
Congrats! Looks like a good L60 offer I would aggressively negotiate for $120k stock. Base is good. Sign on could be $50k if HM has budget.
Offer Looks pretty standard for L59 (new grad). One thing to note is that if you just do your job (don’t have to overachieve, just do your job and do well, no politics at that level) you will most likely get promo to L60 (and a salary bump with that Obv) next year. It’s pretty frictionless to get from 59->60->61. Speaking from personal experience. Promo velocity is usually 12 months at that level.
You're wrong if you think 59 or 60 don't have to deal with politics. That totally depends on your team and manager.

Thanks for the response. I have heard that Microsoft gives about $120k stock options for new grad. Is that true?
New grad at 61?🧐
