Got offer from both Microsoft(L61) and Amazon(SDE2). Both in India.

Microsoft - Azure Team
Amazon - Some Buisness team.

I am confused about which company to choose. I have a 6yr(since 1st yrs of bachelors) background in Core Systems Security(Research) and inclined towards joining Microsoft as I can probably move to system security position in Redmond in 2 yrs. Although, with Amazon I will have an option to move to Seattle in 1-1.5 yrs, but I don't think Amazon have core system security positions as such, they mostly have web security or application security, I am not sure though.

Please suggest.

Just Join in AMZN, and get that company name into your resume. after an year or two, apply for MSFT, and MSFT will automatically hire you

Eh, I had multiple friends who interned at Amazon and didn’t get Microsoft offers. I think it depends on the team eg Azure and AWS are always trying to steal devs from each other.

@KnNo75 If I join AMZN for 1-2 yrs and then apply for Microsoft, don't you think this will delay my moving to Redmond, by atleast 1 yr. And, I don't see the point in moving to Amazon if I ultimately want to come back to Microsoft.

lol... you can join in AMZN and move to redmond too man. travel is about 25-35 mins one way from redmond to Seattle. By joining AMZN, you learn hardworking culture and when you join in MSFT after couple of years, you will shine alot

@KnNo75 By "moving to Redmond", I meant moving to Microsoft Redmond, not exactly the place. I get your point about hardworking culture, though. Thanks.

Remember amazon has shitty vest schedule (20% in first 2 years). Keep it in mind before making the decision

    Microsoft is a software company.
    Amazon is an eCommerce company.
    Think about that

I think, it depends on the persons preference, but yeah, by that criteria I should go with Microsoft.

My team refuse ex Amazonian all the time. Amazon on your resume will likely help you have an interview, but if you suck at the interview it won't be any help

Getting an Interview would not be a problem, I think. I have many friends in both of the companies. But yeah, I agree with your point.

Wouldn't be possible. L61 by Microsoft is after negotiating only.

Lol at the way you arrived at the conclusion. We must be the greatest country in the world because we maintain the big brother status very well. But, seriously join Microsoft.

I would recommend Microsoft. Blind has too many cribbing on the bad part at Microsoft. Think about it, if its that bad it would highly impossible to be strong second in cloud and still continuing its dominance in other areas. Sure there are areas to improve but that's true in every place. Good luck wherever you land

Microsoft India has 62 level blockade to transfer to abroad position.
Going from 61-62 will take you 2 years if you are a good performer, 1.5 year if you are extraordinary.

Is this in India or Redmond ? I heard that managers are not immediately promoting to 62 because they are afraid that people will.move to Redmond

61 to 62 in an year is not easy at least in Hyderabad. It takes an average of 2-2.5 years but may depend on other factors. Really good performers I know took 1.5 years. Top performers took an year

In India, join Amazon, Amazon sde2 is much more valuable than Microsoft 61.
I still regret rejecting the Amazon offer..
    Promotion is very hard.

Okay. But for me, thinking about the future(mentioned in the post) and WLB, I think Microsoft is a much better option. Also, I talked to many Azure people, promotion is not hard at all.

Amazon is a shitty place to work. It has too much politics. Manager tends to put anyone in Dev plan if he doesn't like you.

If you plan is to shift to US in 2 years - join msft azure team. But expect to do only lousy stuff in the first year and you may not learn much.
