I have recently got offer from Microsoft and Flipkart.
In MS its Office 365 team and base is 24LPA and stocks of 50 K usd. In flipkart base is 27 lpa and some penny stocks.
I saw in most of the reviews work will not be that great in MS. But in flipkart work might be better and open source but there is chance of layoffs as they are hiring like anything. In news it seems like walmart may also backoff soon. Are they planning for IPO and increasing headcount for that. Can i see carrer in flipkart for atleast 3+ years from now.
How is the work in Office 365 group.will c# close options in future as its mainly used by them.
Please suggest which one to choose.

Can i take mobility internally to other groups in Flipkart. How is the tech stack in this group.

Yes you can do that but generally you have to spend a year in the current team before changing teams within same org or different org.

Tech stack is mostly Java based in FSG with one or two teams using Ruby.

Mostly Java switching between Java and c# is not that hard. Will not close your future option. Still you will be able to apply at whiteboard companies. Ms will give opportunities to us.

Go for MS. Wlb at fk might suffer and lot of operational load you can expect. But in general pace will be good at fk if you will enjoy that. And company is in sunrise sector and pure India play, feel good and reputation factor of being at a top Indian brand etc.

Work in flipkart is definitely not "open source" - almost noone contributes regularly to oss, neither are most of internal softwares released in open. Yes you consume them, just like everywhere.

Not sure about layoffs - still hiring enough people and don't see any cost-cutting. I wouldn't worry about it as of now. You can easily jump ship later.

Work wise, it is ok. Most things are internal facing, lot of internal services and still little haphazard.

Don't know particularly about ekart org. Have seen someone recently move from our org to ekart, so i am assuming it's not that bad.

I think its safe to see 3yr career at flipkart overall - anyway ipo is supposed to be around 2022 (what the media says) and you can change org after a year.
From what i have heard, managers don't try to prevent while changing org, although you have to make out-of-loop connection with the new manager.

And yes, tech stack uses some open source libs (play framework), db and some custom stuff.

Thats strange. I thought Walmart had long term plans to invest in Flipkart and probably take over completely.

In the long term they are looking for IPO but for that they are looking to decrease losses.
Why do you think they would increase headcount for that ?
Though can't say if there won't be any layoffs in the next 3 years.

Increase headcount helps to get better listed with higher open value. Btw i am also not sure what's happening in Indian market ola and swiggy are also hiring in similar way

  • If u want to switch go for office or stay where you are. There are high chances that walmart will follow what uber did.
