I heard all engineers at Autodesk usually code 1 hour a day. Any insights on this? Your post sounds similar. Every company / team has politics. Humans equals politics. Just join the company based on if u enjoy the work
It’s much worse at Microsoft then most places. Competition with coworkers is in their DNA, and it worked well (more or less) in the early days, but it created a monster once it reached a certain size. This is a good read, and it matches my experience: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/business/2012/08/microsoft-lost-mojo-steve-ballmer/amp. They’re trying to get better, but it’s in the corporate dna, and for the most part, the people at the top are people who did well under the old system, so they don’t really know how to run a meritocracy.
