Why is this even a question? It's just a question of Microsoft vs AWS.

As a software engineer, you want to work at a software maker rather than a furniture retailer.

Boston 125k will go way more far than 115k in Seattle

Overall public schools and everything is much better for value there too.

No, Boston is super expensive! More expensive than Seattle!

On the cost of living scale both Seattle and Boston should be in the same range, but Seattle doesn’t have state tax!

Boston: good schools for kids. shitty roads! Very high insurance. Rent < San Jose ( to compare bay area avg). The state has no happy hours - not huge but just saying. Also, no late night hangout places. Usually you'll be living in an old house if you rent. Party scene is okay. Huge parking problem. Weather can be irritating sometimes. Great place for Meetups. Very high taxes 🤦🏻‍♂️ Probably not a place you would invest in home as compared to west coast. Also, learning experience is okay at Wayfair. If you're into sports and fitness, Boston is a good place to be. Just few things to consider that people overlook. Pardon my grammar.

AWS. They will be the next big thing in cloud and what you will learn there will be of far more value. Working at AWS will keep you on your toes and you will grow. I am moving there next month.

I work on very important projects. One such illustration is that I once faced a grappling issue where the color of the sale flag was red but was expected to be teal. My work has real impact.

Search blind for Wayfair threads, proceed at your own peril

Man that's depressing. You guys have such a good site

It's a great site, as long as we don't drop the shard containing your customer information for some undetermined amount of time, or as long as some datacenter ops guy doesn't accidentally unplug the rack that has the pricing "system" (aka spiderweb mess of stored procedures) running on it, or as long as your internet connection is fast enough that you can load the several hundred MB pages that we ask you to render in your browser.

Yeah he said that he would try to make it to 170k. He did not give a finalized picture yet

People use the acronym TC not “TOC” when referring to Total Compensation here as an FYI.

Stay away from Wayfair. Aws your mileage varies. There are some god awful teams with bad oncalls. Understand what you are getting into before accepting.

I already accepted the offer verbally so I dont think i will have a choice to ask

Verbal acceptance doesn’t mean anything. I have negotiated for a higher tc even after accepting verbally by bringing other offers to the table.

You can probably get a better tc than Microsoft from Amazon if you tell Amazon you have a Microsoft offer.

Is it a good choice to choose amazon over Microsoft?

Depends on team/product. I'm got offers from a few very good teams but I'm an internal transfer from Services which prevented me from getting signing or stocks. The comp difference is too big to ignore for me.

Amazon also offered very high for the band and my yoe when I mentioned I had competing offers.

You will probably be happier at Microsoft. AWS doesn't really have cool offices or perks, kind of just a cubicle grind. I think they have a coffee machine. There's some upshot if you can gouge them on stocks, but the turnover is high.

That wayfair stock is per year? What stock price you are using to calculate 50K valuation. As far as I know, wayfair offers number of stocks for 4 yrs and not a $ amount.

Microsoft seems low for them that’s pretty much what new grads get
