Hi, Recently I got an offer from Microsoft, wayfair. I have a pending result with aws. I have a deadline with Microsoft to accept the offer by end of the week. Need some suggestions for my next steps, whether to wait for result of amazon or decide between Microsoft and wayfair. YOE:2.8 years as SDE MICROSOFT: Location : Redmond Base:115k Bonus:0-20% RSU: 50k Sign on :30k Wayfair: Location : Boston Base : 125k Stocks:50k Bonus:0-10% HR said that he would make the TC to 170k$ Aws: Location: seattle
Microsoft seems low for them that’s pretty much what new grads get
That wayfair stock is per year? What stock price you are using to calculate 50K valuation. As far as I know, wayfair offers number of stocks for 4 yrs and not a $ amount. What's the vesting schedulr?
You can probably get a better tc than Microsoft from Amazon if you tell Amazon you have a Microsoft offer.
Is it a good choice to choose amazon over Microsoft?
Depends on team/product. I'm got offers from a few very good teams but I'm an internal transfer from Services which prevented me from getting signing or stocks. The comp difference is too big to ignore for me.
Why is this even a question? It's just a question of Microsoft vs AWS. As a software engineer, you want to work at a software maker rather than a furniture retailer.
Boston 125k will go way more far than 115k in Seattle
AWS. They will be the next big thing in cloud and what you will learn there will be of far more value. Working at AWS will keep you on your toes and you will grow. I am moving there next month.
What do you work on at Wayfair?
I work on very important projects. One such illustration is that I once faced a grappling issue where the color of the sale flag was red but was expected to be teal. My work has real impact.
Stay away from Wayfair. Aws your mileage varies. There are some god awful teams with bad oncalls. Understand what you are getting into before accepting.
You will probably be happier at Microsoft. AWS doesn't really have cool offices or perks, kind of just a cubicle grind. I think they have a coffee machine. There's some upshot if you can gouge them on stocks, but the turnover is high.
