Microsoft's Best?

Aug 6 18 Comments

Which language is more important to have if I was looking to get hired at Microsoft? C# or Java?

These are the only languages I can choose at school and I know C# seems to be more Windows and .NET centric but Java is everywhere, maybe even present inside Microsoft.

So, which one is better to get in at Microsoft? 🤔

No one cares about language. Any decent dev would pick up most languages pretty quickly. Same reason they ask you to use any language during interviews

Is this a trick or a troll question? I mean, you must be kidding, right?

C# because it's a Microsoft technology and not Java, which is perhaps Microsoft's .NET most fierce competitor ... ?

Would you say that learning C# is only or most useful at Microsoft and nowhere else? Like, if you know C# and Microsoft doesn't work out, would there be many other places who would find it useful?
What about Java? Do you know what top tech companies heavily depend on Java?

I honestly can't tell if you're trolling me right now. Are you asking me if C# and .NET in general is popular?

Lol I'm serious! I know it may sound like a noob question but I just wanted to gain perspective on these languages. I'm already learning Python but I need to choose between Java and C# for my next semester and I was wondering which one is more marketable for Microsoft (C#, we established that lol) but other companies too in case Microsoft doesn't pan out. I feel Java is more popular and it may be a safer choice if that's such a thing.

Why on Earth would anybody use Java in MS? It adds absolutely no value and with Oracle going after Google, most other companies don't care much about it either. Net Core is now open source and MS is betting big on it, so that lots of developers.

I just saw a job opening on their website. It has as requirement C# yes, but also Java, or Python or "similar languages". So I guess it's not completely useless..

Nobody cares about Java in MS! Go for C#, if you want to do system work, C++ is nice to have too.

Thanks @SAP I'm new to both so I'd have to start from scratch either way.
