When I was in the Midwest it was pretty easy to get to 220k TC. You had to manage though.

I'm in the Midwest currently. Pay is dogshit. Weather is dogshit. Literally -22 degrees outside right now. No innovation. Culture is dogshit. One of you pricks needs to hire me ASAP.

ok the weather is shit, but there is a lot of good opportunities. Depends on what you need for culture i suppose, grew up here and i like a little slower less bullshit lifestyle, but i know its not for everyone

For a few months because it is a bit more cost effective. Then I get reminded about the near nuclear winter that happens each year

Didn’t like the close mindedness, over concern about what the neighborhood will think, and the culture of risk aversion in business.

Iowa is literally a cult, do not go. Only in Iowa would somebody go to Disney world and say "Wow, this is a lot like Adventureland".

Moved from Midwest after more than a decade there. Miss the low housing cost but not the weather and conservative tech culture. Commute could be just as bad depending on where you commute from/to. Culture is slightly more laidback and is likely more accepting/diverse than perceived. I wouldn’t mind moving back.

Got a source? Rural folks love to think this but usually the opposite is true - large metros contribute more to taxes than they receive.

I would love the shorter commute but can't handle living on Trumpstan.

Any metro will be left leaning.

When traveling away from the metro once you start seeing anti-abortion billboards you've gone about 10 miles too far.

OP is in management. The only way to come close to 200K and remain IC in my market is to go independent.
