My wife and I live on a high floor, water view apmt in one of the top buildings in Seattle, the apmt has in house washer dryer, top of the notch appliances and a breathtaking rooftop. We own a 55inch TV, a couple of sofas, most of the top gadgets like an iPhone X, a good laptops, echos etc. We eat out on avg 2 times a week, make at least 1 international trip and a couple of domestic trips each year. With all this being said, my wife thinks we are living a minimalistic lifestyle. I would genuinely like to understand if I am missing something here ? P.S. In no way am I trying to brag here as I understand most of the stuff posted above is expected with dual salaries in Seattle but I still think this is no where close to being minimalistic
I'd be happy with that, maybe a little more traveling since life's so short.
Yes, you are living the pauper life. Buy her a Gucci bag.
How big is your apt? # of cars? Storage pods? To me minimalism is less things, not cheaper things.
Perhaps she's counting the number of things and lack of clutter, as in a minimalist design or decor, rather than quality wise. Just an idea.
You are probably staying at reasonably priced hotels. I generally take it up a notch and look for something around 225/night. It's a whole different experience when you go with such resorts. Also, buy costly clothes and accessories. They look great ( otherwise you'd refuse to pay top dollar for them) and last longer because you tend to take care of them much better. Do not go cheap on shades and shoes. It's not going to cost you more than 8k extra in the first year. Lesser from the second year. But life feels great after that.
There’re many ways to overwhelm yourself - parties, things, art, crafts, calendar full of activities, etc Then there’s luxury level - are you eating out at Canlis? Fly First internationally? Get large villas/suites/etc? Are you actually splurging or are you comfortable with your finances?
To answer some of the comments here, we rent a spacious 1b1b, don’t think we need to rent and don’t own a car as parking is too much of a hassle in downtown Seattle so we prefer renting better cars than we can probably buy, over the weekend When it comes to flying international first and buying high end brands, I agree that we don’t do that right now, but my opinion is that falls into the bucket of ‘luxury’ and not doing so, doesn’t mean being ‘minimalistic’
Is she referring to your sex life?
your wife is probably comparing your lifestyle with someone else’. You probably need to work on your wife’s mindset before she can realize she can be happy right now, no matter how much you two make.
The TV is only 55''???
Ya, the minimum these days is 65.
TV size is indirectly proportional to penis size
