How does it affect how your perceive yourself, your successes and failures, your career, and work environment?
If women are considered a minority, it is actually a v sad thing. But I do know the feelings of being the only woman in a room of male engineers or PM. Either they really respect u or they don't at all.
Saviorism?
Meaning progressives (usually white) who feel the need to “save” minorities due to their assumptions (which are racist) that being a minority inherently means you are oppressed and marginalized in some way
When you say racist, what do you mean? It doesn't seem to match with the other part of your statement. What part of that assumption is racist. If you don't think there's a societal bias against particular races I would implore you to do some research.
The only reason why “saviorism” exists is because racism and sexism exist. If they didn’t, there would be nothing to “save”. It is the same principle for why regulations exist. Some idiots screwed up and can’t stop, and they ruin it for everyone else.
As a white minority I learnt how to deal with it.
No indian can ever say he is a minority in tech. Bcoz we are the majority. I stand up from my cubicle and see all indians around me making me feel i am in Bangalore
Yeah, but I have not heard other Indians considering themselves bas minority? Also, under most companies definition of minority, we don't come under minority.
Never needed anyone to be my savior. I grew up in a violent $hithole yet surpassed Asian, White, etc in my field. I love competition and the ability to destroy any race in academics, sports, workplace, etc. with ease. I’m black btw 😉✊🏾
I feel like I’m a complete failure because I’m working for a company that no one has ever heard of and I’m working my ass off. I should be at a big company but fucking recruiters and hiring managers have specific races in mind. I realize from experience that a lot of the engineers that I work with that work for big companies (Cisco Intel Broadcom Qualcomm) are average engineers and don’t work hard and are not that smart and most went to okay schools yet they get to work at bigger companies and enjoy the salary and the perks.
