What's the most economical car to buy? New to US and looking for a car with good safety features. Budget is a constraint but would prefer a new car.

Lol. Heard it from someone on Blind. Would you take a Civic or a Corolla?

Civic for performance and fun (as much fun as you can actually get out of a sedan). They’re both very similar in safety and life of vehicle.

I would think so. The dealership will usually verify the car is in good condition. You might even be able to negotiate a good service package.

All of that is offset by higher initial cost and insurance on the Tesla. There’s nothing economical about it.

Tco of ownership assumes you sell the car at 4 or 5 years. What matters is not initial cost, but purchase price minus depreciation. Tesla holds value better than other cars. Nothing about a gas car is economical or green. ICE cars are the most wasteful thing on the planet. 140 billion gallons per year used in the USA. Over 105 billion gallons at an average 25mpg completed wasted. Used 140 billion gallons but we only got the energy benefit of 35 billion gallons. You are on the wrong side of history, economics and technology.

You’re confusing economical with environmental. They are different.

I think you are not accounting for the external costs of your gasoline consumption. 12,000lbs a year of carbon you dump on the planet per car at average miles and mpg. Bay Area people prefer these economic models, like the 1,000 liquor stores in SF selling cheap liquor to homeless folks, which the tax payers pay to spray off the streets in the morning. Just like the liquor store owners, they are not paying their true cost, society picks up their cleanup fees and gasoline users environmental impact.

      That’s not part of TCO!

If that’s the case, you aren’t accounting for the cost of producing a Tesla, which is way higher than a Camry. Also consider the rare earth metals in the battery, and costs to recycle it.

Watch the video I posted, watch the other parts of that story in their channel.

Tesla’s get in less accidents than ICE cars, fact. Repairs, give me a break. Electric cars have no maintenance. Motors are rated for 1m miles. I’ve put 60k miles on electric and changed one 12v battery.

Go for simpler machines. Either 100% gas or 100% battery. Consider maintenance cost and weather tolerance.

General Atomics, hybrid is crap, I agree. Electric is a completely different story, no maintenance and no fixing stuff.

I've owned multiple hybrid and my experience is they are superior to equivalent regular ice engines.

Streetdirectory? I’m not sure how they think a hybrid has less parts. The best hybrid still wastes a lot of gasoline. 50mpg still wastes 50% of all the fuel you put in the car. Tesla is already over 90% efficiency with energy. When hybrids get to 90mpg then they can graduate kindergarten. You are watching Apple/Nokia all over again. Electric will win and even the largest car manufacturer in the world VW, agrees. When 6 solar panels can cover all the energy needs of one vehicle, 12k a year. It makes big oil irrelevant, but some people like fracking and oil spills and dirty water.

No reason to compare hybrid vs ev. Duh.

But hybrid vs regular stupid old ass ice is a no brainer.

A hybrid is inefficient just like an ICE, they are the same family. BEV Tesla, Leaf type is the future.
      Jul 23
    • Microsoft iiieeegemm
Hybrid are much more efficient than regular ice.

Of course full ev is better but not enough options in full ev for most yet.
