How would you motivate kids of the age 10 years or above to code without attending computer science courses in school?(some of the schools doesn’t have these courses) I hear teenagers get in to software companies with zero college training. What childhood events helped them in their decision to pursue computer science ? How would a kid(teen) self learn complex algorithms? Any success stories?
Make it Fortnite-related.
Hahah true!
Make it a competition. My brother started at 13. I chose to study CS in college and got him hooked on colte Steele’s udemy course. He would FaceTime / screen share me all the time asking for help. Now he’s winning Hackathons in HS and jokes that I’m only good enough to webdev 😀😅😇
Excellent! Thanks!
Steele has multiple courses, which one are you referring to?
Just don't. They will start coding if they find it interesting by themselves. If you start pushing too much they will rather start hating it.
I want it to develop organically too, but want to provide opportunities to learn if interested.
First LEGO league. And eventually creating mods for Minecraft. Took my kids to a game dev conference and got them started. It has been hit and miss but getting traction.
Awesome!! Game dev is the way to go for kids. Best way they can connect
I find that if a parent is really passionate about something, kids notice. And kids are the best truth discovering creatures there are. My dad worked on a data compression algorithm that I picked up and it motivated me to learn CS So I’d say just do your own projects and share them sometimes with your kids
Screw that. Tell them to go outside and play.
Make game mods. Minecraft comes to mind
Get those toys that teach kids to code. It’s rare that kids become interested in something at such a young age and purse that as a profession. So don’t stress about that too much. I wanted to become an astronomer and look where I am today 😄
Toys to code is definitely something I will explore. Not trying to stress too much, but want to provide life events that will help them in their decision making when it’s time.
Depending on how old your child is, you can put them in robotics competitions and mentor them... they will develop liking to machines and coding if they have it in them to start with.
