I currently have an offer from AWS Redshift data plane team in Seattle. Would like to get some insights into the kind of work that team does, how ops heavy is it, and hows the WLB like? I dont have the numbers from the recruiter yet but I have a pending offer from another company with TC of $250k. I am lvl62 at MSFT with around 4.5yrs experience!
I stopped reading at WLB in context of Amazon. You are asking wrong question. The answer is well known.
While we at MSFT comfort ourselves by thinking our WLB is great, all of Amzon isnt that bad. I know multiple people who have decent WLB's and are doing much more challenging and interesting work then what I am doing.
Specifically, AWS and WLB don’t go in same sentence. I know few pockets in Retail Amazon where WLB is good, but beats the whole point of being at Amazon.
Who’s the director of the org?
AWS database services isn’t the place for WLB. Stone cold killers.
A year back, database org especially RDS, redshift and DDB had really bad oncall. But I would suggest to find someone in Amazon trustworthy who can look at their ticket queue and give exact oncall load. My personal advice is to not trust hiring managers, they often manipulate truths by giving reasons like they have support team in dublin or US.
It’s a very good organization. Great PEs solid mgmt, great growth potential. Ops slightly heavy but they follow the ☀️ global team.
Hi OP Old thread, but I'll be joining the data plane team in about a month or so as an L5 SDE, and wanted your thoughts on how your experience has been this far, and if you're still at AWS at all.
Wow
