Move to FB from LinkedIn?

I am currently 350k TC as a senior software engineer at LinkedIn. I got E5 offer from FB and TC is 390k + sign on. One of pros at LinkedIn: WLB is much better than FB. The work is easy and I can get exceed performance review quite easily. At FB, I may need to spend 30% - 50% working hours more to get average performance.

You have your entire life ahead of you. Don’t rest and vest so soon! Things you will learn in a fast paced culture are invaluable. If it doesn’t feel right, you can always bounce and go back to Linkedin. At least you will not wonder how it would have been.

If FB will let you progress in your career (by developing your skill set and/or knowledge base) and if you want to progress at the cost of WLB... go to FB. If any of the answer is no, stay at LinkedIn.

Family/personal time is more important than prestige or more money, IMO. If you already make enough to live a good life, then what’s the point of more? At the end of your life I’d bet that you’ll wish you had more *time* with loved ones and having great experiences than more money. If it were me, I’d definitely stay.

Google pioneerbro Nov 4, 2018

No, at the end of life you'll always regret something. Don't make life decisions around deathbed regrets.

Cisco Sipowicz Nov 4, 2018

Regretting I never did something like visit a certain country, I can live with. Regretting not being there for my family and being present with them in our life is a regret I am not willing to have. Nothing is worth that, especially if you already make enough to live comfortably.

If the work is easy means you are not learning enough anymore.

That’s truth

Which org in LinkedIn? Wait for staff promo and jump ship as e6.

LinkedIn Asnbc OP Nov 4, 2018

Flagship and staff requires a lot of horizontal efforts, which I don’t really have

LinkedIn xgbeast Nov 4, 2018

Staff needs a sizable MSA. That can be horizontal or something big on your team.

In life money is not the only criteria.. self content is the word when you will learn you will be happy

LinkedIn xgbeast Nov 4, 2018

Self content with higher TC is better IMAO.

At 7yoe if you feel you’ve gotten enough experience and learning from LI then you should feel confident enough to move. You can always come back as a boomerang if it doesn’t work out

SAP kbron Nov 4, 2018

You can always come back? Iike if there were no more companies

LinkedIn Boots 👢 Nov 4, 2018

Kbron: yes, not many companies like Linkedin
