Have lived in FL for a few years now. Love the weather, outdoor activities, relaxed lifestyle, average cost of living. But I hate that most people at work are old, work is too laid back, and not as challenging and competitive as I would like. Been thinking to find jobs and move to the New York area. Thoughts from people who live there?

Is your company off-shoring jobs?
I think it’s definitely worth finding a place that is challenging while you still have the drive and desire to push yourself. I worked with someone who worked in NYC area but went back to FL for weekends. It’s relatively cheap to travel to FL from here and of you’re making FANG SWE pay you’ll have the money for it. FB and Citadel are two places where being competitive can pay off. Two Sigma is ok in this respect, better then Google but culturally more laid back and not rewarding of highly competitive people.
