more or less what the title says. I am having a lot of mixed feelings. what do you guys feel about moving from Big Bank to Okay Start Up? i don’t see a lot of reviews for Start up online. just fyi, getting around 25-30% increase and everything is on base so no bonus or RSU
Why move from relative security of bank to start up with no opportunity for a big upside in equity..? Not saying shouldn't go, but why not push for a lottery ticket or two
Just about learning more and get my hands dirty while i can. I can take risks as today but probably won’t tomorrow. Yeah no equity but learning in startup is always more no?
I think what he’s trying to say is why work at a startup that gives no equity when u can find decent startups that give equity.
Not at all. I went to a startup for +30% increase and very little shares. For me it was worth it because of better TC and more interesting work. Also I can jump from here with greater confidence about my "worth".
Thanks for one positive comment. PM’ed you
25% tc increase is my threshold personally for switching jobs Go for it, but keep in mind that startups are chaotic and disorganized, if you don’t like that then... you’ll be knocking on the doors of MS to take you back in 2 years... Speaking from personal experience :p
Good response and thanks. I have some experience working with 2 startup’s so do know they focus on how to get stuff done. The only motivation to leave before was $$$ and now it seems like those $$$ aren’t helping much in MS too.
Downside: You'll lose your VP title.
I am not a VP yet. Been an associate only for past 1.5 years. Plus i find banking very tedious. Its more business and process oriented than tech oriented :-( New title is “Senior Software Engineer”
Senior means nothing at a startup unfortunately
