Moving to Bay area
Planning to make a move to Bay area. Total household TC in 450k range. But after looking at housing and child care costs, I've started to rethink my decision. Currently household TC is approx 350k. But housing is half the price where I live. Is 450k TC enough for a comfortable living in Bay area?
I echo what the others have said. Don’t do it. The quality of life has worsened over the years and it’s very competitive out here!

Where is the office and where do you want to live? TBH 450k is not that much here if you also want to save and not spend all your money on housing. You can make it work but it’s questionable whether or not it’s a better idea. Are you also moving to a new company?

Apple? One thing nobody is talking about is the effect on your career from going to a better company. If you’re moving up in the world, that may be worth it even with a 0 net pay increase
Bay Area is not worth it. TC is BS. Relative cost of living and quality of life will always trump absolute TC. Would you live & work in Syria for 1M TC?
I will. For 1m in Syria it won’t be taxed. I will have my own militia and my own hareem. Plus Syria weather is Mediterranean so same as Southern California. I will live the sultan life.

You can come here knowing that buying a house will be painful. Yes it’s expensive and competitive but those are the Downside of living and working in the valley.

If you're already in California and get to enjoy the weather then why move to bay area? Bay area schools are more competitive and the quality of education is better but I would stay in LA.
