I have been on H1B visa for a decade and now finally moving to Canada for good. The thought of not worrying before planning an international vacation and about going for visa stamping is so liberating. Just wanted to share the feeling. Any one here who is going through the same phase and what your thoughts are?
Bye 👋
Bye Bye
Do you have a job offer in Canada or are you gonna start looking for one once you move?
Nvm saw your other post looking for a new role. Congrats and good luck!
Thanks ! I plan to work from Amex Toronto office until year end and in parallel look for roles.
I will be doing it when I'm financially independent - not too far away now. Best of both worlds! Good luck man!
Exactly the same boat. Moving in July. July can’t come fast enough.
To be fair, I love my work, my co-workers and Seattle. My kid was born here and has grown up here, biking on the streets. Our dog is from here and is a cool dude and a half. If not for this hanging sword of H1, I would not have left. Having said that, after having thought about this move for over 2 years, now that it’s finally happening, I do echo your sentiment word for word. It’s very liberating.
How has your experience been so far?
Same reason for us, if not for H1B we wouldn’t move ... We have called this place home for last 10 years .. not selling our bful home and renting out for next 2 years.. will take a call later on that. All the best for your move!
Yep, that’s what we are doing too.
PMed you, in case you are interested in new role
Which city are you moving to ? How did you decide ?
I am also planning the same. Any advice on how to search for swe job..? I know about LinkedIn and indeed. Is Toronto the only city to consider?
Hi guys, can you pls share what your experiences have been so far in Canada? Did you move with jobs or did you go and find something? How are the kids adjusting? Have a PR and looking to move soon.
Feel free to DM me. Moved with my family (kid in elementary and a dog) 6 months ago. Happy and settling in well so far!

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Been thinking about the same. How much time did it take you to get the Canadian PR (start to finish)?
We did not get enough points when we tried in 2016, we re-applied in 2017 and got enough points. Took about 6-7 months. Once you make the cut for the required points, document submission can be done in 3 months and then in a year you have to go to Canada to activate the PR. All the best!
@alina what do you mean by we? Are the applications considered jointly if you are married? Also did your employer helped you with the application in terms of processing fees and legal help.
