So I've had a couple interviews with this company that went really well and if I get the job my family and I will move to Portland after a little while. Do you guy recommend buying a house/apartment or just renting an apartment? The office is in downtown Portland so I'd like to have as little of a commute as possible but I'm not opposed to one.
Commute in Portland isn't bad and public system works well. Most of my coworkers from my ex company (they have their office in Pearl) used to take the bus or bike over. Portland is beautiful, enjoy your time :) - also invest in good rain shoes and a rain jacket (and as some one else said, don't carry an umbrella).

That make you look like an outsider. A real Portlander always wears a rain jacket. Also rain jackets don't poke fellow side-walkers in their eyes.
Also they are useless in sideways rain and mizzle. (drizzle mist) go to Columbia outlet and get jacket with hood. Thin layered shell. Tuck ball cap in pocket. Good to go!
Study commute time traffic flow. Some are great some are really bad due to things like single lane transition ramp everyone has to take.
I recently did the same- relocated for a job. We are renting in Beaverton and my commute into downtown on the Max isn’t bad at all. I used Urban Nest to help me find a rental- they were awesome, they would give me tours of places over FaceTime, and having them on my team made me more competitive to landlords. It wasn’t cheap- they charged one months rent for their service, but it was worth it.
Just a buy a house now as long as cheap. It's surrounded by Seattle and California - both are kinda Saturated and highly priced in terms of housing
House prices in Portland are high, on scale with Seattle. Expect to pay 350,000 for a house needing another 100 k in renovations. It will also be in a bad area of town. If you wanting something real nice, or in a special historic area price jumps to 500 or more. If you plan to work downtown, look for options off the Max lines in Beaverton, Hillsboro areas. If you want to drive, make sure you consider parking costs into the equation. Commute from downtown to outer areas is 1.5 to 2 hours during most rush hours.
It is Nike or Providenve health? I would say rent for a year(or 6 month if they allow) , and see how much you like living in portland or enjoy your job.
No, it's a start-up company. That's what I was thinking but the only issue with renting is I have a half lab half pit bull and I'd really like to keep him. How hard will it be to find a place that will let me keep him?
I rent (in dfw) with a pit bull mix. What do all of his vet papers say? I've made sure to keep my pups vet papers as vague as possible... aka "lab mix". Also, mine only weighs 40lbs. You might have more trouble if he's bigger as some places have weight restrictions.
