Let me try to consolidate the information here for everyone's convenience.

I’m considering relocate to Singapore in the next 12 months. And here're some useful info I collected from Blind and other sources. Current TC 250 non neg

1. Tech companies in SG
Apple, Amazon, Google, FB, Netflix, Salesforce, MSFT, Linkedin, Oracle, Grab, SEA (former Garena), to name a few

2. TC. I don't have many data points and there're little information on glassdoor (most are out dated).Would appreciate your contribution

Grab: L6 senior eng manager. Base 240k SGD, RSU 80k/year SGD https://www.teamblind.com/article/Singapore-compensation-S240k-cash-S80k-paper-money-spEVMrWy

Apple: For internal transfer, assuming same level, they just convert your salary from USD to SGD, with some incremental (150k USD to 165k SGD something like that). There is formula to do so and no room for negotiation.

FANG:: N/A

3. Tax

There's a calculator on the IRS's website. https://www.iras.gov.sg/irashome/Quick-Links/Calculators/ I downloaded the 2018 one and calculated a few:

- TC$100k SGD, Tax $5650 5.6%
- TC$150k SGD, Tax $12450 8.3%
- TC$180k SGD, Tax $17550 9.8%
- TC$200k SGD, Tax $21150 10.6%
- TC$220k SGD, Tax $24950 11.3%
- TC$250k SGD, Tax $30700 12.3%
- TC$300k SGD, Tax $40550 13.5%
- TC$400k SGD, Tax $62150 15.5%

That’s totally possible and actually quite difficult to get PR. At least for non-Chinese race. Many people apply and get rejected multiple times.

Those very popular local schools are hard to get in, even for citizens. However, overall quality of primary education is quite good compared to other countries. I have friends who’s kids go to local school and they’re happy about that. Not sure about the cost but definitely affordable.

Hwa Chong, National JC are popular too.
Local school is harder to get into recently, in the past it wasn’t that difficult.

Just to add on income tax, there is no capital gains tax and you pay $7,950 of tax on your first $120k of income (6.6%!!) https://www.iras.gov.sg/irashome/Individuals/Locals/Working-Out-Your-Taxes/Income-Tax-Rates/

Any good tech companies in Singapore? As I know, Amazon and Facebook have business teams in Singapore not tech teams.

Not all are great but those that I remember: LinkedIn (they have data center besides biz teams), Google, Oracle, Zendesk, Ubisoft, Autodesk, RedHat, SAP.

They made a big announcement a while back on how they are building an engineering hub there but I don't see any job postings for such roles

@OP, it would be great if you can update the thread with cost of living for typical family with 2 kids. I know there are many parameters when it comes to families but general guidance would be great 👍

It’s actually SRS not CPF. https://www.mof.gov.sg/MOF-For/Individuals/Supplementary-Retirement-Scheme-SRS

This is CPF equivalent for foreigners. I’m asking because Apple does match your contribution so that foreigners and Citizen/PR get paid equally. I believe the max monthly matching is 1.1k now (6k salary cap * 19%)

SRS is for citizens too. Am Singaporean and have an SRS account. It will help reduce your tax liability. Don't forget that money in your SRS account can be invested so take advantage of that and it'll become something like an IRA. Otherwise it'll just sit in the bank earning a measly interest rate.

I had the CPF (Central Provident Fund, only PRs and citizens can contribute to it) match in banking but not in tech. Income taxes are low and you will be able to save under SRS or any other scheme that you like.

No they don’t match and doubt you’ll be able to negotiate for an equivalent increment in base (not usual here)

What about weather? I heard people sweat a lot because of proximity to the sea.

    • Amazon QUgG88
It's very humid. Some people sweat a lot, some less, but I can't imagine you won't sweat - it's just too humid. After some time you learn how to cope with it. I still prefer it to snow and cold in the winter in other places or short Seattle summers - it's really nice to leave office and not have to wear any long sleeves in the evening. But some people hate the weather there.

Is this year long? Does humidity reduce in winters?

      OP
@acef there’s no winter or spring or fall in Singapore. It’s a tropical island and remains humid / hot all year around.

I used to be in Singapore and I got married there. Fed up of immigration and shit in usa. I am considering moving back since my wife lives in a different city and it’s a mess here. In Singapore if you have 200k bank balance you can live comfortably

Not really a hdb costs about 400-700k if you are going in high end Area without Singapore green card which is okay compared to Bay Area

In banking and oil & gas they paid it with your salary, so it was up to you what you did with that money. Good to know that Apple offers it

Cpf is only for permanent residents and citizens. For non citizens and non pr your company won't match spf but might give you some extra cash (rare but it happens)
