Planning to join Zendesk as a Sr. Product Manager. Current: L63, TC: 250K, YOE: 10 Zendesk offer: Sr PM, TC: 340K I'm comfortable moving to SFO despite the long commute. But I'm not sure how moving to a smaller Brand will impact my career( Progression of Responsibility, TC, and marketability) If you have made such a move - please share your wisdom. How did your career progress after such a move?
Zendesk is a well known brand in the CRM industry. It's not some obscure startup. Congrats!
Moving to a smaller brand is a good idea, but the responsibility jump should be significant. For example, in your case, I’d be looking for a director-level job at Zendesk. Comp-wise, this move will hurt... state income tax and COL will nullify the increase. I wouldn’t do this as-is.
Not a career expert. But, I wouldn't do it unless there is a significant uptick in post tax TC
Your friends and family will stop calling you
Hope you have a happy life
I do, likewise my friend
Can you give the split for your TC? They’re looking to move upmarket so it might be a good time to join them.
Zendesk is not really a small brand but it’s definitely experiencing some issues trying to scale... leadership learning how to do leadership and teams learning to work as a team, etc. and politics continue to be politics. Check the latest Glassdoor reviews written by PMs and you’ll get an idea of what to expect
i moved from msft to zendesk and i have no regrets !
What is their interview like? Specially for PMs from MSFT, Amazon etc
Zendesk is a very well known brand and they’re doing really well. Congrats!
By no means I am an expert, but with the recession fears coming in. You may want to include point this in your decision.
