i have always been a handson person (sr, principal, architect whatever you wanna call). but lately i have been seeing some very jrs becoming vps and sr directors in large companies. it seems to me thats the fastest way to grow. what do you folks think? tc: 300 and i know sr directors make twice that much 🙁. and as per them, they have more impact on the companies bottom line.
I've had the same frustration at a number of companies. Make it to a very senior IC role, get headcount dangled in front of me, then watch fresh minted MBAs get hired for open senior management positions while my request to interview isn't even answered.

If you vote for Biden this year, don't complain about layoffs
Idk about growing, but managers seem to have much more job security than IC. I don't have much interest in managing others.
Isn't it reverse? IC have more job security? Managers and Directors are first target during layoff, or as a matter of fact anytime they are prime target
Managers have higher job security but ICs can find a job faster if laid off.
