Hey folks, does moving to seattle for fews years on L1 after getting candian PR is possible. Will I be allowed to keep my Canadian PR or my Canadian PR will be revoked? I also own stock trading account and have more than 25k investment, will I have to pay taxes on gains before moving to Seattle ( even though I am not selling them) or it's only required for the people who decide to part ways from Canada permanently?
What is the intent of the move ? I am currently a PR and I moved to Seattle on L1 because I wanted something specific which is not in Vancouver . You have to be in Canada 2 years in the past 5 years so you have a window of 3 years we’re you can be in USA working on L1 and not lose your PR . Also citizenship is not immediately after three years of PR it takes one year to process so in theory it is 4 years from the time you become a PR . I don’t have data but I have seen that Canadian citizens find it hard to get L1 visa compared to citizens of other countries you may have to consider that too On stocks yes you will need to pay taxes when you are no longer living in Canada . It is not related to your PR status . I just chose to sell them and pay taxes as part of the return
Errr, Canadians can get in on the TN visa. Not the L1.
Why not @New? They can get TN, L1 or H1.
U should check the rules clearly. There was a rule by which PRs needed to be present in Canada for two out of five years. If that is the case then u can stay in Seattle for another 3yrs. However u will then need to return to Canada to keep ur PR status alive. Else u may lose your PR. Check the current rules.
Note that is measured in days, so vacation outside Canada counts against the total. If you are out of the country for three straight years when you return you won't be able to go in a vacation overseas since you would not have enough days in Canada.
