Multiple interview streams: company 1: got verbal offer, nothing on paper yet. Been 2 weeks, hiring manager isn’t picking up. company 2: two telephonic rounds cleared, waiting for on-site round. Recruiter calls to say, you know we’re still thinking when to do the on-site - you’re great but maybe we wait to make it a January hire. company 3: thought was doing great, whiteboard and all went well. Asked a couple questions around holiday plans and hiring manager didn’t say anything then, sent a note through recruiter that I was being too personal. End of story. company 4: verbal offer again, nothing in the bag yet. Have been reached out to by recruiter from another super awesome tech company (non-tech role), in two minds whether I should respond now with frazzled nerves or wait it out. I don’t believe in verbal offers as I was once interviewed by a giant in a very rainy city in the Pacific NW and on my way back home, the hiring manager called me while I was at the airport that they’d move forward and come Monday, headcount cut 😢 Why is getting into Product companies so hard for non-engineers? Don’t companies require people to sell stuff and/or build supporting IT applications? Are PMs/PgMs necessarily awesome coders? Sad day continues...
It happens
I mean to be purposefully harsh... LMAO ARE YOU SERIOUS? Literally every time I've gotten a job I failed at least 10 interviews. When I wanted to take my career to the next level and work at an SV tier (FANG+ in blind parlance) I failed 16 straight onsites before I got it done. Buck up buddy. Take your lumps and learn and get back in there
You have two verbal offers! That is much better than most can say. Also, I would not count the verbal offers out. It costs companies boatloads of money to interview, meaning once they decide they want you they are heavily inclined to follow through with an offer. The delay could simply be because people are on vacation.
I’d think so - but last year the biggest e-commerce company in the world flew me to Seattle 4 times for on-site, put me up in Fairmont Olympic and still no dice. So I’m sure they’d have spent a lot considering they didn’t say after one on-site, they had to get me in thrice before finally deciding no 😢 Interviewing at MSFT would be awesome though!
Don’t worry too much, it takes me lots of interviews to get an offer.
It’s gotten a point where I just interview for kicks because offers are few and far apart; recruiters, hiring managers are still people and will be fickle. Don’t let it get to you!
Was the hiring manager in company 3 Chinese?
Sorry man. Keep at it! It’s been a hard quarter for interview imo
Yes my friend. A mentor long ago told me - interviewing is a numbers game. The more interviews, the more chances to convert at least one. Btw - applied to TESLA as well through a good referral, no response 🤦🏻♂️
You don’t want to work for Tesla lol
