I’ve gotten DE every year for a while. It’s not that unusual, check the comp internal group. There’s a few spreadsheets from people who have the same.

      Very nice and congratulations!
Question for you — does the 1.3M and 1.5M factor in the increased stock price?
Meaning, were you previously given lots of RSUs at a lower price, and thereby in 2018/2019 got a much larger TC?

Yeah it includes the increased stock price. Some of the earlier grants are worth much more now. The last year or so’s been shitty for the stock though.

Oracle doesn't give bumps with a promo either. I don't know if we even get bumps at all. I'll probably leave after my initial RSUs vest since I'm assuming I won't get refreshers either. OCI is probably better with this stuff (I'm not in OCI).

A terrifying statistic: so far, posters here other than myself have gotten raises in 62 of 63 person-years. Of the person-years without raises, I have 17 of the 18. How are your employers rewarding you so frequently and so consistently? Surely there must be hard times and unprofitable years where they have to cut back on pay?

I went through dot com boom and bust. Ironically, all of my big raises have been while staying at a company, rather than by switching. Early on, in early 2000s, raises were to keep up with the market. Later, the big ones were role changes, promotions, and after affects of being acquired. Other than that, raises were of the typical few percent variety.

I'm in the Boston area and came to Salesforce (Job 5) via acquisition. A decent amount of of the comp is stock based and price was $67 at time if grant. I was in management but forced to move into an IC role, which led to my departure.

I'm not sure about Demandware in particular, but overall Salesforce was a fine place to work. Good pay and benefits for the Boston area and decent WLB, though product roles seem to require a lot of travel, especially at higher levels.

    2016 $450k
    2017 $600k
2018 $700k (changed jobs, does not include Lyft RSUs)

    Few thoughts:
    1. Base pay does not matter. One advice, always negotiate for higher RSU’s. Base will automatically adjusted as companies try to do market adjustment over time and get everyone into a certain band
    2. The RSU component is much bigger at more senior levels, obviously. But it also means that in a bull market, you get exponentially higher comp bump highlighted by the last few years
    • Oscar 🐨koala
Base matters a lot when you are not working for a publicly traded company. Obviously if you are working for startup you are betting a 100x return.
      7d
    • Facebook xxkw86
How can you get $700k without counting RSU?
      7d
    • 300k base with 400k bonus, there are lots of partitions. They're probably a VP
      7d
    • I changed jobs in the middle of the year, so collected RSUs from my earlier company and then a decent sign on bonus

      7d
    • Lyft frxd02

      6d
    • Facebook newguy@fb
Base matters when you need money to upkeep your family. After making enough for your monthly expenses then RSU make more sense. I didn't think of it before. I always care about base because I needed the money.
      5d
    • I mean base within reason. Having said that, most companies don’t have a cliff any more, so RSUs are as good as base.
      5d
    • RSUs are easier for companies to be more aggressive on.
      5d
    • And most companies always have market adjustments which get your base bumped back to the mid point or something like that

Uber has a level 5a and 5b before you get to L6 - that jump was L5A to 5B - I’ll be up for L6 this year. They consider me High performing here.
