My coworker is super weird...

I’m thankful I work in tech, and we are not required to go out of our way to be friendly just do a good job, and be professional.

I realized this, after finding out my new office mate is the coworker from hell. She basically tried to start some high-school drama bullshit with me, she said I was being rude to her because of some way I said a sentence to her. This in the middle of me trying to finish my job and leave in 30mins. It was already after 5pm. I basically blew her off, and she stormed off mad. Also she’s been with the company for a whole 1 week.

So then I realized, fuck, I don’t need to talk to her, she’s not on my team, I was just being nice. I literally only need to be professional with her, and none of that involves telling her about my personal life, or even going out of my way to be nice. It was so fucking freeing.

So how was today? Fucking great.

Also, I am a female b4 anyone turns this into something it isn’t.

I had something like this happen to me on my first job out of college. You’re new thinking will liberate from the stress, and it sounds like your coworker is mentally unstable. Unfortunately for me it spiraled out of my control and she tried to make me look bad. Honestly ruined my first job all together. I still hate it to this day.

    What was the question again?!

Lmaooo, that’s exactly why I decided to ignore her. All I’ve been is nice to her, and she was doing other weird stuff last week, like asking me to eat lunch with her, then ghosting me during the lunch. Then after yesterday, I realized she’s one of those people who likes to start shit, then probably gossip about it, and I don’t need that kind of negativity.

I figured the best thing to do is to give her nothing, and not associate with her at all because I don’t have to!

Fair warning: don’t let your selflessness or good intentions be shown because people like her will prey on that good energy and then twist it and ultimately make you feel bad. Even for nothing, they’ll talk shit on you. It’s best to keep your distance if you can. And if you have to interact, literally don’t ask questions/probe. Might be awkward at first, but it’s 1 awkward relationship, or day in day out unnecessary stress and baggage.

Remember it’s not your fault they’re unstable; but unless you want to get all up in their business, I’d personally stay away

Yup, exactly. I don’t understand how she’s going to effectively meet with the engineers with that attitude.

They are entitled. The grad was hired at my pay band right out of college , a band that took me 5 years to reach . So they assume they are better. Some are really good and I have kept contacts with them others are just entitled.

I’m a PM now, but I switched from being a senior dev, so her behavior was really odd for me. I honestly don’t think she’ll last long if she’s like this.

Not juicy enough. Turn by turn dialogue would make it more dramatic.

There’s one person in my office I permanently pretend to not know anymore hahah. Avoid eye contact when walking by. Pretend I didn’t see them. Don’t say hi even when my friends talking to him.

@apple, It’s being smart. I’m not going to let a potentially dramatic person ruin my reputation at work, so disengagement is the best course of action. If you have 0 interactions with them, then you aren’t giving them anything to twist around.
