Using "Camera Engineer" as an example, I would be developing internal software for the Camera Engineering Division that compiled manufacturing data. Can I still put "Software Developer" on my resume? I'm just afraid I'd fail a background check for lying about my job title. Which of the following is the most honest and accurate, if my official job title was "Camera Engineer"?
Don't put camera engineer. Nobody has any idea what that is. Use the standard job title for your actual job responsibilities.
Background checks (HireRight, etc.) don't care if there's a mismatch in job titles when they call up your employer?
Exact match is not required.
Seriously?
If you put 'Hidden Camera Engineer' , you may get more calls than what you can handle. Just saying...
Love it
Put software developer instead. I have the same issue as you do. Recruiters were bombarding me for the wrong positions (because recruiters also don't read, they take key words). Once I changed the title to what I believe is right, things lined up. Plus now I feel less of a fraud saying the wrong title when I'm not even conversant in the topic.
You are seriously overthinking the issue

They do, I think, but only if it’s crazy. If you worked at Facebook as a security guard and put “senior engineer” or some shit, that’d probably be an issue.
