Who is the best employer? Lots of LA folks have worked for a couple. Want to see where you thought was best. Reply below if you have commentary.
I can't say anything about Disney or Warner but I like NBC a lot. My department sucked for a while but things changed and after about a year it's gotten so much better. I'm in the NY office which is a lot smaller than LA.
Side note, I'm annoyed that all three are making their own streaming services.
I think it's hard to say, because they are all such large entities that you will easily have a different experience depending on what what part of each company you work for. I've been with the company a long time, and I've bounced around and worked for different segments and there is a huge difference between business units and even groups within a BU.
I’ve been with Disney for a handful of years and couldn’t be more disheartened by my team and Disney as a whole. Cultureless vacuum of disposable human capital. Turnover is outrageous and there’s zero interest in retaining institutional knowledge. Reorgs happen on a whim which teaches coworkers to keep each other at an arms length cause chances are you’ll wake up next week on a new team. Seems pretty endemic from the folks throughout the company that I’ve discussed with.
@prbablybob agreed.
Impossible to say. It depends on what you’re looking for. For example, if job security has any importance for you, Forget Disney and Warner as they will keep laying people off left and right due to their consolidation. (I worked at Disney for over 13 years and have close friends at Warner and NBCUniversal)
As I said above, it completely depends on what part of Disney, and what your given role is. I've been laid off twice within 5 years of Disney, but I could tell those business units were poorly run. But in my current stint I'm going about 10 years and see no impending threat of layoffs, I feel like I could retire here if I wanted.
Unless you work for one of the studios (eg Marvel or DAS), there is no safe place at Disney now and for the next couple of years. Good luck! I am glad I left in 18 on my time and terms.
Recently left Disney for Warner... Warner seems to have a good future with our new CTO and new CEO... we’ll see.
Seems to be true for other companies as well, but politics at NBCU are insane. It’s even worse at Peacock. Many people in senior positions have voiced their opinions on how to better advance a show’s campaign, and higher-ups here tend to think they know better and react to the opinions negatively. If you speak your mind here, expect to be reprimanded like a child (the higher-up goes to your manager and makes sure a note is written on your performance review). This has happened to multiple people in senior positions, most are scared to speak up anymore. Especially since layoffs are imminent with the launch of Peacock.
Definitely Disney
