I'm starting to look around for a new gig (been at Amazon for almost 4 years working as an SA). Who pays well in NY? Where can I get a Principal SA role with a TC of more than 400? My background is in web and app development, but I haven't been programming full time for the last 4 years while at AWS.
18 YoE and looking for 400? For exactly what role? This should be easily doable.
If I were to switch back to programming then yeah, it'd be an easy 450, but I don't want to anymore at this stage of my career. I like to be in a more strategic role, and I hate the idea of leetcoding for 2 months)
Architect roles pay more than programming roles. I’m confused by your comment.
FAANG and Hedge Funds hire people with zero to limited domain experience. Other places do pay above 400k but its for people who move from exactly the same background that the role requires. I moved to a Hedge Fund and let me tell you the environment is not pretty. Anyone that pays 400+ will be a challenging place and role for a new employee. I would suggest stay at Amazon, relax for a few more years ( assuming thats what you say you are doing). Above a certain threshold employers become very demanding. Also Netflix has fostered a culture of value based employment. That means a lot of firms aggressively hire for new projects and then scrap the projects due to various reasons. The new employees that have no tenure or knowledge of the company internals get fired first. The way you describe I think you want to manage a big part infra project but not risk too much skin.
