Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Friend of mine realized after phone interviews at few places, they were namesake interviews for green card positions. Shouldn’t the employers be honest about it before the interview. instances when it was only 50% fit, but the hiring manager convinced hard and insisted to take the interview and it was a great fit. Pace and tone of the interview were clear. Arrogant and not willing to listen to the answers. Too bad it is practiced by large and reputed companies. Painful to go through these for middle aged folks. Wish the companies are honest and not insult candidates. Being a citizen seems one should apply only through staffing companies. Any way to find out up front about these namesake interviews.
If I were you I would think of this as an opportunity. If you shine out this might lead to a job much better than you are qualified for. I wish I were considered for a few namesake CEO interviews for example. I might not get the job but I would learn what the interviews look like.
Name and shame the company!
How do you know it was a namesake interview ? Most companies dont train people to take interviews and that results(not always) in bad candidate experience.
What's Name sake interview? Does it mean they would only hire citizens? Or only green card holders?
+1 What the heck is a “namesake” interview?
Reserved for green card petitioners currently on visa. As part of green card petition process, companies are required to post job ads in different formats and are required to required to interview ‘potential’ applicants who apply for those positions. Companies have unwritten rules to reject all applicants through fake interview process. Radio job postings are true green card positions. No one applies for these. These positions are fake. I know few managers in the past few years who have confessed about this fake process. It is reasonable to expect companies to clearly mention the intent of this position instead in disguise.
Lot of assumptions here. Not enough clarifying questions. Not inclined to hire.
