Hello community,

Problem -

Cons - I want to be an individual contributor but I have come to believe that I am not finding any opportunities at my current company to grow as one. I am stuck into a full stack role and I just cannot work on front end stuff because it's just not my forte. I am also very timid and not confident about whether I will be able to turn abstract ideas into fruition. I am not doing well on the communication front either. I am not being proactive and I dont go to team community sessions and I have not given a single talk on what I have been working on. I have taken up more backend projects on my team and I was able to excel at code quality and documentation. All of this is causing a huge burnout and i am no longer interested at my job and sometimes weeks go by trying to find a backend project to work on so I end up doing code reviews only.

Pros - I have been spending a lot of time on leetcode since I have not been doing any work at my real job. This is giving me satisfaction and I was able to nab offers from Google and Amazon.

I have decided to make a move in the hope that I will be able to transform my self at a new role. However, I am pretty sure I will face a similar situation again in my life. How do I keep things excited and interesting?

I have no mentors and I really need help. I am entering my 30s

TC - 200 Amazon
TC - 250 Google

Current TC 150

I think some of the issues you described may haunt you again. Being able to bring abstract ideas into fruition will be expected of you in Amazon and Google. So will presenting your work. I would suggest you work on becoming good at these things. Your colleagues might lose respect for you if they found out you cracked the interview but can't do duties associated with your role especially as an experienced hire.

Get a mentor, a person who's profile you like and want to follow. Ask them how they reached there. Mentor being a person unknown to you and to you organization is the best option. Try to read books like crucial conversations, Dale Carnegie books. Take up impactful work, gain visibility with in your second line managers organization.
