Hi Folks, My team recently got dissolved in India and all the products we owned have been transferred to US. Post this announcement I got an offer from the team in US to join there in the same project (to which my products were being transferred) which I accepted. Now, I got to know that since I haven't completed 1 year as an SDE-2 therefore instead of taking VP approval the managers want me to work remotely for them for Q3 (Jul-Aug-Sept) and after that they will initiate my VISA process. The decision I've finalized is that I want to move to US. Now I'm in a dilemma that should I work remotely for the next 5 months (Q3 + visa process) for this team OR should I switch to a different team in India and then initiate process in a different team in US after a quarter. What do you guys suggest? Also, is there anyone here who can take a VP exception now and has good career opportunities ahead? I can join as soon as possible.
Work with your current team since you have most leverage with them. Few months delay is not a big deal in the big picture. Who knows, if you do a great q4, they might take you there with a promotion thrown in
Even otherwise, Visa process takes time. So, you are not really expediting in any way. Don't mess the opportunity you have on hand
In order for a project to be transferred internationally, that requires the action of a VP. Go to that VP and get the approval. Make the person own their decision...
Switching with current team will be easier as there will be no ramp up time and if you are an important team member you can slowly push your manager to start the process sooner than later.
