Need help to choose offers: airbnb e4 or fb e5

Currently a senior engineer(level 4)at LinkedIn, got two offers as mentioned in the title. Need some help and guidance to make a decision, I break down different perspectives as below:

Package: fb better because of its level, however, I do see potential in airbnb’s stocks.

Commute: fb better, need to commute to the city for airbnb.

WLB: seems airbnb is much better. With fb’s up-leveling, I would see myself struggle a lot at least in the first year. I have never been a level 5 engineer in my current job, so starting in highly competitive place with a new level...I am not sure if that’s a good idea or not.

Growth: both teams are not decided yet. I would think FB has more freedom to choose teams.

More context: am a female who doesn’t like stressful working styles a lot, and cares a lot about family, otherwise I wouldn’t start this post I guess lol. Probably most people will go to FB.

Any advices will be appreciated!

Tc: current 310k, airbnb offer: 330k, fb offer 360k

Used to work at LinkedIn. There is a huge difference in expectations for FB E5 and LinkedIn senior. LinkedIn basically has no expectations. If you don't perform you will be managed out.

That said, they wouldn't hire you at 5 if they didn't think you could succeed. If you are not ready, it may be uncomfortable, but you will grow fast.

What are expectations for an intern and LinkedIn?

I didn't manage an intern at LinkedIn, so I don't know how that works. At FB, interns have to show they are a solid E3. High productivity, good code. Don't need to set any direction.

Obviously biased, but I would root for Airbnb for the cult(ure) (in a good way).

Fb is fairly well known for pip culture. Airbnb can outpay FB easily but the commute is real

Airbnb can do much better than fb in terms of pay. Maybe that’s worth the commute

Could you please tell why you’re looking to leave LinkedIn? Was it your call or your Manager’s(indirect)?

I choose to leave, have been at LI for four years, no opportunity to be promoted to staff.

Great! Might be worth editing your main post so people can see but nbd.

Airbnb definitely has less pressure (on avg), and since tc is only 30k off, being downleveled isn’t the end of the world —you should pick the environment you think you can thrive. The uplevel to L5 will come sooner or later :)

haha sure, but we shouldn’t really compare the packages directly at LI and offers. I am at last year and will be facing a hard cliff, so I am earning at my highest at LI and possibly earning lowest at a new place.

Airbnb has office in San Jose downtown. Working there might be better for South Bay folks.
