Need referral

I am a Chem Tech undergrad (India) with MBA (US). Have 3 years exp before MBA in India and 6.5 years post MBA in US (1yr Business Analyst intern, 4.5yrs in Pricing & last 1yr as Sr. Financial Analyst). All my experience had been in non-tech companies. I want to get into Microsoft or any of the FAANG companies primarily because these companies are prime companies currently and secondarily for a lucrative pay.

Can someone from these companies advice best approach to get an interview call? Do I need to know technical stuff (coding, etc.) even for a finance job? Is there something specific I need to add on my resume to get the interview call?

Any advice is very helpful. Thanks!

Just for you infoβ€” the lucrative pay you talk about is only if you are a software engineer or anything related to tech or a Product manager. Others don’t get the lucrative pay you are hoping for. And the pay high for the engineers purely because of the highly competitive market.

Why are you mad? Look at the growth these companies had in the past couple years. Most of them have almost doubled in size due to their consistant good results

Referrals works great for getting a foot in the door for FANG companies. Try to get em for the recruiters to notice you. Don't think knowing coding will help you more than knowing how these different companies make money (business models) and what are the challenges/competition they struggle with. Best of luck!

Also, be super aggressive to get recruiter attention (if no referral). InMail/email/show up in person and take em out for coffee. Do whatever it takes to get foot in door - ahead of that, it's all your game.

Yup, I agree! However, I am on the East coast nowhere near to the HQ of these companies. I have been connecting with the recruiters within these companies in LinkedIn and reaching out to most of them. But no one responds back. I understand that they might be getting a lot of such connectionrequests and messages, but at some point they should respond to all.

I'll give you an example with a LinkedIn recruiter who I partner with. We posted an entry level job at my team in less than a week - we got more than 1000 applications for it. That one single recruiter was in no way going to get through all of them even in a couple of weeks. That's why referrals work well in these big organizations which attract a lot of talent.

Just go to some professional events. Talk to people. Don't be a dick.

Companies give referral bonuses, so I want to refer people. But I need enough of a connection that it is not going to embarrass me.

Ya if you're going into finance, don't expect lucrative pay at FAANG. You may have better luck looking towards wall street.
