Spent 3 months interviewing here for technical product manager roles. Intervjewed 8 companies(didn’t mass apply), had 4 final round interviews. Each time came close but didn’t get job. An interviewer mentioned that since I don’t have west coast startup expeience the bias is that I might not be able to work as fast as people here do. Heck I was working full time and masters and internship at one time. I can’t blame companies. What can I do to overcome this real or perceived gap: this is in big data and ml product manager. Meantime relocating to a great consulting job in the Midwest but would love to move back out to the Bay Area. Thanks for the advice.

Your consulting gig should change the perception. Depending on whether it is in the same area -ML or AI, you might be able to use the contacts/clients from the consulting to land your next opportunity. However, getting 8 rejects is kind of alarming. Talk to some career coach to see if it is somethig to do with your softskills that need a change, namely your speech or mannerisms etc. Goodluck and finally - dont let the recruiters’ feedback bog you down. Screw those guys! You are your boss!
Thank you.. I never thought of that but you are right. It is 8 rejects and alarming...hmm.. I know I have a bit of an imposter syndrome that comes out when interviewing. And I don’t handle questions when I’m missing some experience Well. I need to learn to interview better., since i have done this and more complicated work before. Thanks for the feedback...
