I've been a dev for almost four years now. Got out of the military and got a job at a startup after coding for a hobby. Fast forward to now and I'm working for Dell in Austin making 160k TC. I want to get into the big leagues though. I've started doing leetcode problems but I was hoping I could a gameplan together with the help of some people that work at FANG companies. I'd like to he interview ready in about 6 months. Thanks in advance for the help.
Unless you go for senior positions at FANG, making avg L5 TC 200-250 in Bay or Seattle, you aren’t necessarily better off than 160 in Austin
That's a false dichotomy. With the exception of Netflix, all of the FAANG are in Austin, and--with effective negotiation--they pay comparable to the Bay Area.
Well, if moving to one of FANG’s Austin office, assuming you get to keep your Bay/SEA TC, you are effectively increasing your TC by at least 30% considering big discrepancy in living costs, which is an amazing deal especially for a place like Google, where almost nobody gets promoted, which in turn, drives up the open position/total number of qualified candidates, so it’s closer to market equilibrium.
