My wife used to work in Java related field. Then she took a break of closely 3 years. Now she wants continue her carrier. So she started applying, but looks like no much response from the companies due to gap in carrier. She is trying to catch up with new Java releases etc. (looks like the Java and its technology has gone up a lot) as her old project in LA was based on very old technology and it was mainly maintenance project.

She is already taking couple of courses on udemy etc. But looks like she is missing something as she attended very few interviews but couldn't crack those.

She is ready with any consulting company (Infosys, wipro etc.) or contract position. Main intention is to join back software industry.

We will be moving to Seattle soon so mainly looking jobs in Seattle area.

Could you guide us on how to catch up with new technologies and come back in to industry.

I think intuit recently started a program for people who took a break in career. Contact recruiters directly on linkedin

She should explain her career gap in her resume or cover letter.

I think the timing is good because Kotlin just came out and is well positioned to supersede Java in the future. I'd learn Kotlin which would take a month to do and teach her a lot about what has evolved in programming in the last 5 years

  • Your wife should try leetcode subscription to help prepare for on-site interviews. She should also reach out to recruiters to help her get placed at a company.
